Drywall. Types and characteristics

by nevadacountynews

Drywall is a building material designed to finish surfaces, is a sheet with a gypsum core (hardened gypsum dough with fillers), glued on both sides with construction paper or cardboard.

GIPS used for the manufacture of drywall sheets has a porous structure that allows you to regulate air humidity and thanks to which building materials “breathes”. The standard sheet size is 1.2 × 2.5 m, by order of the buyer, sheets that have a length of 3 meters can be supplied. Gypsum cardboard thickness: 9.5 mm, 12.5 mm. Gypsum cardboard is designed for the installation of load -bearing walls and interior partitions, for facing suspended ceilings and walls, as well as for the manufacture of sound -absorbing and decorative products. With the help of drywall, various niches, windows located in the walls or partitions, slopes on the doors and windows, arches, beautiful multi -level ceilings are made. This material does not need stucco work, and allows you to achieve the maximum smooth surfaces. Before fastening GKL, a metal frame of galvanized profiles and suspensions, or a wooden crate is built. Then the sheets are attached to it with screws. Using such a frame, you can create structures of any shape and complexity. The plasterboard sheet is attached to the bearing surface with gypsum glue, which is a dry mixture.

Drywall is divided into three types, depending on the conditions of use:

Normal drywall (GKL) – used in rooms with normal, not high humidity for wall cladding, as well as to create interior partitions. The sheets used have a thickness of 9.5 mm, in some cases, sheets can be ordered 8 mm thick for wall cladding. And for suspended ceilings, which carry an increased bending load, use a drywall of 12.5 mm thick.

Moisture -resistant drywall (GKLV) – used in rooms that have increased humidity for vertical installation of partitions and wall cladding, or for horizontal installation of suspended ceilings. The core of waterproof drywall is the same as that of ordinary drywall, covered with moisture -resistant materials on both sides. Moisture -resistant drywall has a thickness of 10 and 12 mm.

Refractory drywall (GCLO) – a special drywall in its composition fireproof special additives and impregnations. Used in those rooms that require compliance with fire safety.

Gypsum -fiber sheets (GVL) – sheets in size of 1.2 × 2.5 meters, 8, 10, 12 mm thick, used in the same cases as drywall. The core of such sheets uses a large amount of loose cellulose extracted from waste paper, which distinguishes them from ordinary drywall. Gypsum fiber sheets have greater insulation and lower weight. The frame created from cellulose fibers, during transportation and installation, has a lesser risk to paint. Gypsum fiber sheets are divided into three types: ordinary (GVL), moisture -resistant (GVVV) and refractory (GVLO).
