When pronouncing the words “antiquity” and “classic”, many people immediately represent the Greek pantheons, Roman palaces, the magnificence and luxury of ancient architecture. After all, it was in these distant and ancient lands that the “antique” style was born, which many modern designers, architects and builders set as an example as a standard and an example of ideal proportions.
The foundations of Greek architecture were carefully adopted by the Romans, who not only borrowed all the subtleties of architectural art, but also introduced improvements to the construction system. The order Greek system had three famous orders, and thanks to the Roman architect, two more new. Thanks to this mixing, a new level of architecture was born, representing the standard of beauty, monumentality and completeness.
Any architectural style is not complete without elements of antiquity. And the interior of the interior without Roman Greek standards is simply impossible to recreate.
It will not work to make repairs in the apartment and completely arrange it in the antique style, because such design requires huge areas. Church of Athens and Capitols look fundamental and differ in their volumes and scope, accurate proportions of height and thickness.
However, introducing some elements of antiquity to the design of the apartment it is quite possible. They will look very impressive both in an ordinary apartment and in a country house.
Corner of Greek history in the apartment
The main feature of the Greco-Roman style is the versatility and multifunctionality of the room. Ancient people knew what comfort was, and tried to build buildings and individual elements so that they could be used in different purposes. Having reached the experience of the architects, you can create a hall from the passage room, and closing the door – a cozy personal living room.
Using some elements, you can recreate part of the column, imitate gables and ceiling beams. If you decorate only two walls in this style, while others are in another, for example, in classicism, or make a mix of different styles, then all of them, thanks to ancient elements, will fit into a single harmonious line. The main thing is not to overload the interior with ancient elements.
The main idea of architecture is not to weight, but to visually expand the space, adding weightlessness and ease of details. Modern materials allow you to achieve an identical effect. When using them, you can build your small Greek temple in a small apartment.
The half -columns, competently inscribed in the doorways that steadily holding the pediment, will visually raise the height of the ceiling. In a small room, narrowing columns made in light shades will add a visual volume of space. Any used decorative element brings its special charm to the design of the room.
Another option is the use of small decorative elements in the interior, for example, chests. In ancient times, chests performed practical and aesthetic functions. A tree was used for their manufacture, and for individual parts – gold and silver jewelry. The style of the ornament – spirals and wavy lines. You can also use bas -reliefs.
In addition to stucco moldings and columns, tubs with living curly plants will also look advantageous, which will resemble a cozy Greek courtyard.
Lightness, simplicity, ease
Greek style was characterized by comfort, convenience and simplicity of the design itself. Graceful tables and chairs with curved legs decorated with small carved elements will perfectly fit into the interior. It is better that the furniture has dark shades, but not black. This was considered the ancients of nobility.
Fabric drapery was used only in intimate rooms, such as the bedroom. In the manufacture of furniture for other rooms, the fabric was not used. At that time, all natural and natural. For interior and design, only noble natural materials were used: wood, stone, marble. The floors were covered with carpets with a bizarre ornament, with a tall, fluffy pile.
Using decorative details and light elements of antiquity, you can create the illusion of ancient Greek luxury. It is not at all necessary to use only light shades and white color. Beautiful saturated colors were no less appreciated: blue, black. They stained separate details.
The light background always visually increases the room, and even bulky parts will not “crush” if they are painted in light pastel colors or elephant bone. Of course, the whole luxury and wealth of the Greco-Roman palaces will not be able to recreate, but a separate part of them can be created in their house.
