Venetian plaster and how to apply it so that the wall looks amazing

by nevadacountynews

The plaster is called both a mixture for applying to the wall and the finishing layer that turns out, after applying the mixture to the wall. The walls are aligned with conventional plaster, so that the hotel material is then applied to the layer of plaster. There are even special plasters with additional properties (for example, sound absorption or heat saving). And there are decorative plasters. There is no need to apply anything over them – they themselves are the final surface for the wall, and sometimes they are extremely attractive in themselves, and sometimes it is required to paint decorative plaster in addition.

One of the forms of decorative plaster is Venetian plaster. This type of plaster resembles marble. There are other options for decorative plaster (color, stone, sgrafito, terrazite). All of them should be applied by a special method.

How to apply Venetian plaster?

1. Explore different application tricks that will allow you to achieve a better result. Different application will lead to different result. Always try applying on a board before applying the plaster to the wall.

2. Before applying plaster on the walls, apply the base layer and let it dry. You can choose a color in the tone of the Venetian plaster so that there are no visible white spots (plaster is applied with an uniform layer and this is its peculiarity).

3. Apply plaster. Put the plaster enough in the tray to cover the zone convenient for working, but not large. If you see that there are gaps (white spots, if the wall was not painted in advance) – this is normal. About 80% of the surface is covered with the first layer. It is easiest to apply the plaster with a suitable roller for this, and the video itself is better to dip in the plaster while it is wet enough. After using the video, the walls should go through random strokes of the spatula to level the surface.

4. After the plaster dries (give it at least four hours), you need to apply another layer. For the second time, the tray is filled with a new portion of plaster, and the spatula bends a little to get rid of scratches. Plaster is applied with cross or cyclical lines to create the illusion of texture. The purpose of this stage is to fill all the holes, so that the wall is 100% covered this time.

5. When the plaster dries, it will need to be wiped with sandpaper with a granularity of 400, and then wipe with a wet rag. After you need to go again with sandpaper, but this time with a grain of 600. This is polished the surface. The higher the granularity, the more contrast. And after the second passage with sandpaper, wipe the wall again with a damp cloth.

Result and calibration

As a result, you should see a texture created thanks to a combination of two layers. If the surface seems not brilliant enough, attach the spatula close to the wall and polish the surface by creating temperature and friction.
