There are times when you need to replace the door, but there is not enough money. Or I just want to give the old door a new life. What to do in this case? Try to restore it!
Of the tools, you will need chisels, rubbings, a spatula, an industrial hairdryer or a soldering lamp, sandpaper No. 60, 100 and 180 and brushes.
1. Check the loops.
First you need to check the loops and, if necessary, replace the old ones with new. The door should close well and firmly, while taking into account that over time it can sag, and the loops – go down. If there is friction, then you need to process these places with a shirt so that a gap of 2-3 mm remains between the door and the box. Self -tapping screws that are not holding in the holes, swell the PVA saturated with glue with matches.
2. Remove the old paint
Before starting work, remove the old paint from the door. To do this, remove the door from the loops, place on a horizontal surface, and then, heating at an angle, remove the paint with a spatula. This must be done very carefully so that there are as little damage as possible, which may require the subsequent putty. When the main part of the paint is removed, the remaining small areas can be removed with a large “skin”.
3. Grind, clean, polish
So that there are no irregularities, polish the door of a “skin” wrapped around the bar. The grinding should be careful, because after staining on the door, even a small tubercle will be visible. Then the surface is cleaned of dust, degreased and proceeded to putty. In deep places, it is recommended to make two layers of starting putty, and the entire surface is covered with final putty so that the door looks smooth and even.
4. And clean again and grind again
Clean the door of dust again, apply the soil, let it dry, then polish the surface to remove the dried and “lifted” villi. If previously unnoticed shortcomings showed, then plunge them, and after drying, polish.
5. Finally paint
After all the work done, feel free to take the colors. For painting the door, it is recommended to use enamel, which must be diluted with a solvent and applied to the surface in three layers. At the same time, the door is slowly stain in a horizontal position and let it dry with each layer. If there are stains and dreams, they can be wiped with a small “skin”. The places of fastening the loops and the lock planes can simply be primed, it is not necessary to paint them.
If you follow all the rules and recommendations, then you can give the door a completely new and even unexpected view.
