How to lock the gap between the bathroom and the wall?

by nevadacountynews

The need to close the gaps between the bathroom and the wall, mostly stard after the work on the replacement of the tile or the bathtub itself. The gap reaches from 1-2 millimeters to several centimeters. It all depends on the size of the gap you can solve the indicated problem of one or another option. This note provides five ways to eliminate the gap between the bathroom and the wall.

Option No. 1. Grout

If the gap can reach only a couple of millimeters (no more than 5), then for its location you can use grout. Get a white grout or use the seams between the tiles. The superiority of this option is the resistance of grouting to penetration of humidity and saving color for a long period of time. It is possible to strengthen this effect of grouting by processing it with a means of protection against rust and mud (Fuga-shuscum). Ground is applied with a rubber spatula.

Option No. 2. Plastic corner

If the gap is within the boundaries of 10 mm, then it is possible to use a plastic corner for hydro-insulation of the connection. The plastic border is a corner profile made of PVC. Plastic corners can be internal – glued to the wall before finishing the tiles, or external ones – are placed specifically on the tile. The plastic corner is measured in size of the bath, its tips are cut at an angle of 450. The gap between the wall and the bathroom is filled with silicone, and then covered with a corner. It is extremely important to lay a large amount of silicone. When pressing on a plastic corner, the silicone is obliged to get out both from the side of the walls and from the side of the bath. The remains of silicone are removed using wet cotton fabric. The plus of this option is not only the impermeability of the seam, but also the beautiful view.

Option No. 3. Border tape

The use of a self -adhesive tape for the border is reasonable for a gap of 10 to 30 mm. The base of the tape is made of specialized plastic, and a sealant is considered an adhesive component. The option of using a self -adhesive border is very simple. Before starting work, you should clean and dry the bath, as well as the walls at the junction. Release the curb tape from protective mother, warm it with a hairdryer and stick a border on the connection between the walls and the bathroom. Press and smooth out well. But this method has one significant minus, in operation, the interchangeability of the connection decreases, in connection with which the border tape should sometimes be changed.

Option No. 4. Sealant

An important superiority of this method is its reliability and practicality. A sealant based on silicone is a flexible mass, it owns excellent qualities resistant to moisture and perfectly protect the gap from the penetration of water into it. In fact, it is suitable for eliminating slots of different sizes. To apply sealant will be better to use a specialized mounting gun. Before filling the gap, the adjacence between the bathroom and the wall should be degreased, for this purpose any solvent can be used. To obtain the same coating width a couple of millimeters higher from the connection, molar tape should be glued to the walls and edges of the bath. The remnants of the sealant that appeared during it are removed with a rubber spatula. After filling the gap with sealant, molar tape can be removed. After 15 minutes, for the final leveling of the seam, a brush soaked in soapy solution is carried out according to the plane of sealant. The main thing is to perform this operation in one direction.

Option No. 5. Tile

To mareize this option for setting a gap between the bathroom and the wall, you need to cut the tile into pieces of the required size, or buy ready -made tiles. Fasten the tiles with the help of glue for tiles. The laying rule is the same as the wall finish with tiles.
